My favorite piece of gear has to be the guitar bag itself... so many designers have jumped on the bandwagon so you can be very bespoke. Also a surprising number of people with guitars do not have a bag(!) or case so I think it's great to put on ones holiday wish list (of gift list). Thanks for the chance to win so much cool gear!!!!!

Gig Bags as they are called are a great alternative to hardshell cases which generally come with the higher end guitars. Some are even reinforced with a semi-rigid foam for extra protection. Ones made of leather such as my electric guitar bag by Levi's, are especially prized. Gig bags are lighter and offer more storage than the hardshell cases. Perfect for the guitarist on the go. Thanks for your comment, you are entered Ana!

Hard to say what my favorite piece of gear is. Its a toss up between my original brass shubb capo, (which I love because it has aged to a nice timeless patina, works as it should and looks great with the acoustics) and my Sully's Vintage straps, that I love because they are just such nice straps, comfortable and classy.

email is gcoccolu@smith.edu, should I be fortunate enough to win. Thanks for the chance.

Greg

Thanks Greg, you're entered! Vintage gear looks great with a classic guitar doesn't it? Be sure to check out our Guitar Strap Guide VIDEO featuring Sully's Straps. The were given the Player's Choice Award for quality, beauty and value.

My late favorite gear addition is a stool. I have found that besides standing, we mostly are setting while we play, and I if you play for a long while you fatigue in places. Maybe its my age??? Not sitting so low and being able to put a knee up and catch your heel on the rung can be comfortable. And being comfortable is easy playing. I have a prototype that I use at home that also doubles as a stand and I am in the process of putting a small drawer under the seat to keep from making trips back to the case for capo, tuner etc. All wood of course. So I can jam for and hour or more and walk away with no muscle aches.

Thank you Dom! You're entered. We'd like to see some photos or maybe even do a video of your wood guitar stool. A lot of guitar players have the same problem with muscle fatigue. Sounds like a well thought out invention. Great entry!

My favorite piece of gear is a capo. First, when learning to play, the capo was my crutch; something that allowed me to play with everyone else. I had learned 3 or 4 chords and could play along in the key of G, and my capo allowed me to be included with everyone else, wherever they went. Now, the capo is an invaluable tool. It allows me versatility in a song. If I like the way chords relate to each other playing in C, but we're playing in D, I'll just capo 2 and play C. Viola!

I think my favorite piece of "guitar gear" would have to be indirectly the vacuum tube because it can be used to make so many other wonderful pieces of gear. Things like all tube, low wattage amps and all tube effect processors are my favorite things made with tubes.

My favorite piece of gear, apart from my Giannini Craviola, is my electronic tuner. I can get away with using almost any strap, capo, etc. However, I can't tune worth a darn, so I rely heavily on the tuner -- it's got to have a dial (real or digital) showing flat or sharp. I've gone through a few of them over the past 30 years, but wouldn't travel without one. My next purchase (after new strings) is going to be a headstock clip tuner.

Well my Intellitouch tuner is pretty awesome and I'm gonna really push it and say that my Korg metronome is rather great too. Of it'd all be useless without my Breedlove guitars.

A CAPO is fun and my all time favorite to use. I took lessons at a junior college & the sound the CAPO brought out on my Ramiriz was SO pretty it just raises whatever chord I'd play and so easy to use, just clip it on and play. I LOVED IT!!!

Dear Dr. "M", I have 3 Favorites, A pick given to me from Craig Chaquico at a concert he did in Northern NJ in 1999, My glass Coricidin Medicine Bottle "Duane Allman" slide, and my Crate CA15 Cimarron acoustic amplifier. God Bless.....Paul in NJ

Dear Dr. "M"

My favorite chunk of gear (excluding my beloved D-15) is a plain vanilla Shubb Capo. It does what it's supposed to. No frills, and I set it to the tension I want.

My instructor had a competitor's capo that he thought I'd left in his studio.

"is this yours?" him
"no." me
"do you want it?"
"no"

Best regards, Kent

For my favorite guitar, my beloved Schecter six string.....it would have to be my Zoom A2 Acoustic Effects Pedal. With this little wonder I can change the way my music sounds, always inspiring and definitely fun. From rock to soulful blues this is my favorite gear:) Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

My favorite piece of guitar gear is an Asics Wrestling briefcase which I use to carry stomp pedals, chords, and my music binder with my songs of worship for my church's Praise Band!

I don't think I'd be as confident without my headstock tuner What a lifesaver. I can check my tuning any time. I need one for each guitar

Dennis said...

My favorite gear is not a single item: my guitar picks. I love a variety to be able to produce different tone depending on mood. My favorite pick is a Wegen pick (don't remember the model), but I have a bunch from cheap thin celloid to custom wood ones made by a friend, and all get used from time to time.
